D8 doing its best to deal with a sizable chunk of Rock, Sadly the littler CAT seems to be a bit out matched. At a few points it almost seemed as if the operator was trying to use the blade to attempt to split the boulder into smaller pieces.

Hot weather and a limited attempt at Dust Bustin at the pit. Road was pretty much dry by the time the water truck turned around.

World events hasn't slowed down mine operations. All aspects are proceeding as per usual. Brush clearing, bull dozers building access roads and excavators still trying to get to the bottom of things.
D11 on the TopSide

It's figuratively all hands on "top" deck as the reclamation project continues.The conveyor belt is conveying the dirt and the D11 is making short work of the final placement.

You say you're up here and need to be down there ? A few passes with the D11 dozer and no problem. An access road appears in as if by magic.If only all problems could be solved so easily. Happy Holidays.
CAT D11R vs Frozen Ground

A dry cold winter had the Caterpillar D11 meet it's nemesis , that being rock hard frozen ground. At times scrambling for grip the big bulldozer was not to be denied. Final score CAT D11R "One". Frozen ground " Zero ". I didn't fare quite as well with a case of mildly frostbit fingers from holding the camera. A few painful minutes in front of the car heater and things were back to normal.
Light Duty D11

No matter how much material you can move eventually your work area will be in need of some housekeeping. In this particular instance the D11 is called upon for a bit of trimming and skimming with a side order of leveling. Eventually a return to the rocks was in order for the big CAT.
Double Digging Komatsu's

There's material to move and limited January daylight so a pair of Komatsu Excavators dig in and get down to it. The PC2000 appears to have the advantage in turn around time with over 3 times the bucket size of the smaller PC800. So it's confirmed size matters.
D11 on Top

The D11R Top Dog is at it once again removing Top Soil from the Top of the Pit in what is likely the final cut. The soil puts up a bit of a battle as the big machines tracks search for traction. See if you can spot the pheasant that did a cameo appearance in the foreground well the dozer was dozing.

The Stellarton Open Pit Coal Mine is at no loss for Excavators, Where time is money nothing but the biggest & baddest will do. The Komatsu PC2000 is the Big Dog on the block. A few smaller machines make up the supporting cast. Of note as well the newest version of CAT Rock Trucks at the site are sporting on board scales with LED readouts for the tonnage.

All summer a lengthy detour was required to get to the local roads that access a beach and some camp grounds. Being a government job progress seemed questionable at best. Time for a little look to see where we stand.

The uses for the D11 turns another corner literally. Maintenance to the haul road being the priority. A lot of heat and a bit of dust thrown in for good measure.
I know this video is 9 years old, but I'd like to see what this pit looks like now. Also, is there more video of this?

How many yards is he pushing at one time, got to be 30 or 40 or more?
For anyone unfamiliar with a D11’s size try looking close at the operator. Those things are huge monsters. The work they can do is crazy.
In the future they will claim this was created by mother nature.
Are they just filling in an existing pit with overburden. If you don't apricate the video, imagine back in the early years - hand shovels - any person who has done manual labor loves these Cat's!
When using shovels, they didn’t dig as big a hole !
Weird seeing moxies in the same circuit as rear dumps... but it’s obviously a very small operation, using RD’s for the overburden and the little moxies for production. So tiny.
